Best Wedding Venues in Sheridan, Wyoming
Full disclosure, I have never been married (let’s say our prayers for the Summer of 2024 for me! It’s looking hopeful!) but boy, have I been in A TON (14 to be exact) of weddings and I have been to a wedding or in a wedding at every one of these locations. If you’re looking for more of the adventure elopement-type spots in the mountains (Shhhhh, I have those too! Message me and I can tell you all the secrets).
Without further adieu, here are some of the best spots for a wedding in Sheridan:
TA Ranch:
I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS PLACE (all caps because I am yelling). The history, the food, the location, the family. All of it… Anyway…
Step into history and celebrate your special day at the TA Ranch, a site steeped in the rich heritage of the Johnson County War and recognized as a Smithsonian Institute National Historic Landmark. Situated on an expansive 8,000-acre cattle ranch, this venue offers tailored experiences for weddings of all sizes, whether you envision an intimate ceremony in the original 1880 Cookhouse or a grand celebration at the Roadhouse, accommodating up to 400 guests. And as if that’s not enough… you can pick from their unique scratch kitchen menu options, curated to match your theme or taste, and you can have them help with all the details with their rental collections for stress-free setup and decoration.
At the TA Ranch, you could quite literally, “Ride off into the sunset” on a horse. As a marketing gal – I can’t not shout out their well-crafted website. It’s lovely.

The Ranch at Ucross:
Storytime…I took photos for a couple getting married here once. They have this ADORABLE stone-built tiny chapel on site that is worth looking into if you want a super small wedding. Am I a photographer do you ask? The answer is no but there are few things in life I have not dabbled in and photography was one of those at the time, along with knitting.
Take a little drive out of town, in the middle of nowhere, and amidst the breathtaking landscape of Sheridan/Buffalo, Wyoming, The Ranch at Ucross offers an idyllic setting for your wedding celebration. With versatile indoor and outdoor spaces, including a spacious dining room and a rustic Hunting Lodge, the Ranch can accommodate weddings of up to 100 guests.
From customizable catering menus to onsite wedding planning services, every detail is tailored to your vision. The Ucross Ranch in Wyoming was founded by Raymond Plank as a retreat for artists and creators. It's significant because it provides uninterrupted time and resources for individuals to pursue their artistic endeavors. Over the years, it has hosted numerous talented individuals and contributed to the development of acclaimed works across various artistic disciplines.
I have joked with my boyfriend that we should just text our family and friends saying, “Meet us at the chapel in Ucross at 2pm on Saturday.” Just do the dang thing without dealing with the wedding planning shenanigans. Not that those shenanigans can’t be fun but personally, I’d like to just go with the “natural selection” strategy and keep is small and easy.

Big Horn Equestrian Center:
Listen, if you have never watched a Polo match live you are MISSING OUT. Wow. In the summers locals and non-locals set up their chairs or sit in the bleachers and watch in amazement. Then at half-time you get up and stomp the divots on the grass - yes just like the movie Pretty Woman. It also just so happens to be where I played the Snicker soccer tournaments my whole life. The grassy property runs so far you lose sight of it. Needless to say, it’s magical and very nostalgic for me.
Whether you're exchanging vows amidst lush greenery in the summer or enjoying a picturesque winter view dusted with snow, the venue works for celebrations of all sizes, from intimate gatherings to grand affairs of up to 400 guests. If you're looking for a rustic and charming atmosphere with incredible views of the Bighorn Mountains, the Big Horn Equestrian Center could be an ideal choice. You can have your ceremony outdoors or inside of the historic clubhouse featuring a wrap-around porch and breathtaking views, along with amenities like a full-licensed bar and outdoor patio, every detail is tailored to create cherished memories.
If you stay to watch a Polo match, “Only one word of advice, avoid the steaming divots!” (IYKYK)

Bradford Brinton Memorial & Museum:
Heck, even if you’re not looking to get married this is a place you should not skip when you’re in town. They have an amazing Bistro with from-scratch meals. If you’re a real sucker for a Sunday brunch like me - this place is the TICKET!
This historic ranch provides a beautiful backdrop for weddings with its sprawling grounds, historic buildings, and scenic views of the Bighorn Mountains. Couples can exchange vows outdoors surrounded by gardens and then host their reception in one of the museum's unique event spaces.
Explore the historic Quarter Circle A Ranch, spread across 620 acres in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains. With the newly constructed Forrest E. Mars, Jr. Building and the iconic Brinton Ranch House, your wedding ceremony and special events will be one for the books and will keep you coming back every year.
Hosting up to 300 guests in its outdoor tent and offering intimate receptions in the Brinton Bistro and on the Patio, the Brinton Museum offers a versatile and enchanting setting for your celebration. Rich in history, the ranch was once owned by Bradford Brinton, a prominent figure who extensively renovated the Ranch House in the late 1920s. Today, the legacy of Bradford and his sister Helen Brinton continues to shape The Brinton Museum's cultural influence in Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain West.
I have been under the tent at a wedding and in the front yard and you truly can’t go wrong either way. *chef’s kiss*

Spear-O-Wigwam Ranch:
Calling all Hemingway fans! This secluded retreat a hop and a skip up the mountains, once inspired Ernest Hemingway, who penned "A Farewell to Arms" here.
From intimate gatherings to grand affairs, Spear-O-Wigwam offers an unparalleled setting for a timeless and unforgettable wedding experience. Ascend to your dream wedding destination in Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains at the historic Spear-O-Wigwam ranch. With exclusive access to rustic cabins and surrounded by pristine wilderness, your celebration will be steeped in natural beauty and tranquility.
I would say I am biased because I have friends who helped run the Ranch but really, I would suggest it to anyone even if they did work there. But I will toot their horn because they did a ton of work on the website and marketing!

The Historic Sheridan Inn:
Did you know that this place was in the Guinness Book of World Records for the number of dormer windows it has? (TBH, I have never fact-checked that but it was what I was told as a child. For anyone who has time, LMK if that’s true.) But also, The Sheridan Inn is credited with having had the first bathtub and electric lights in north central Wyoming! How fun.
Completed in 1893, it was once home to Buffalo Bill Cody and considered one of the finest hotel’s between Chicago and San Francisco. Sheridan Inn is a historic gem where over a century of romance and elegance still resonates. With French doors opening onto a wrap-around front porch and a Ballroom exuding the charm of the Old West.
This iconic hotel, dating back to 1893, offers a historic setting with modern amenities. Plus, its central location in downtown Sheridan makes it convenient for guests. Enjoy a variety of menu options tailored to your tastes, whether it's an intimate meal in the Parlor or a festive barbecue on the front porch. As you celebrate amidst the rich history of the Sheridan Inn, you'll create memories as enduring as the legends who once graced its halls (potentially haunted halls if you’re into that thing… look up “Miss Kate Arnold".”)
As locals, we are happy to say that they just re-opened their restaurant inside called, Open Range. I went there and tested it out, twas yummy.

Barn in the Big Horn:
This location is D-A-R-L-I-N-G and drrreeeeaaaammmmy.
Dedicated to crafting a wedding experience that's as unique as it is memorable. Their historic barn restored and modernized yet retaining its 19th-century charm, gives you all the butterflies when you walk in! With rustic decorative accents and hanging lights illuminating the landscape, every corner exudes warmth and romance. From the spacious outdoor patio with a fire pit and lounge furniture to the luxurious lawn surrounded by lilac bushes and cottonwood trees, every detail is designed to make your wedding day truly unforgettable. I have been to baby showers here, happy hours, pop-up shops, and yes – as promised, I have been to a wedding here and it was the cutest twilight wedding with corn hole and bands outside. Prime location, my friends.
Icing on the cake? The little hole-in-the-wall bar down the street caters to all the “after-hours” party animals.

The End
Okay, okay, I have typed enough. I could go on and give you all the vendors to go to but I’ll save that for another journal entry. Until then, if you have questions, I’ll give you every single answer, and then some if you message and ask me.
*Last note… gosh… I know I should have REALLY added photos to each venue but I was tapping out and I knew if I didn’t hit publish I would never do it. Sometimes you just have to post the “SFD” - with censoring that means “Crappy First Draft” courtesy of Anne Lamont's Bird by Bird book. Anyway, I am sorry for the lack of photos but what great motivation to click on their websites!
